if we were live |
ca. 2013

If We Were Live was released on October 22, 2013. It is the band's fifth album.
The album is another Odd Logic record that was written solely by frontman Sean Thompson. At the time it was their heaviest, darkest, and most progressive album to date. If We Were Live is a rarity in the Odd Logic discography in that it is not a concept album, but rather a traditional multi-track album. That doesn't sound all too special on its own, but what does make it so unique, is its presentation. At this point in the band's legacy, there were no plans of playing out and thus Sean felt it appropriate to create an experience that fans could appreciate, were Odd Logic to never make it to the stage. (Later on, the band did in fact play out in support of their 2017 release, Effigy.) If We Were Live takes the ethereal concertgoer on a journey and offers a fresh perspective on the traditional "live" album. THE STORY OF IF WE WERE LIVE
By the release of Over the Underworld, the discography had grown well, and yet no real possibility of playing live was in the near future. Combining his infatuation for non-traditional album concepts and the then very present desire to release a nice-sounding live album, Sean decided to create a “fake show”, complete with pre-show banter, dialogue and audience participation.
“It was a lot of fun to make,” Sean reminisces. “I believe it included the most voiceover guests for any album we’ve done.” If We Were Live was another first for Odd Logic, as the first album with another full-time member, Kevin Hunter, who performed keyboards on the entire album. The album included voices of venue employees, interviewers and interviewees, concertgoers, and others. The full list is below.
